Water & Wastewater (Sewer) Rate Study Information

The City of Huntington Beach is committed to providing its residents with clean, safe drinking water and a reliable sewer system. To uphold this commitment, the City is proposing adjustments to water and wastewater rates, set to take effect on July 1, pending City Council approval. Note that trash rates are not a part of this rate study.

These adjustments are necessary to ensure the continued operation and maintenance of essential services. Just like any other goods or services, utility budgets are affected by inflation and rising costs. Additionally, some of our water and sewer infrastructure is aging and requires repairs and replacements to ensure reliability and community health. By comparison, water rates in Huntington Beach are amongst the lowest in the County. Average water rates in Surf City for a single-family home (3/4 in meter at 9ccf) is $43.86, while neighboring cities such as Newport Beach, Westminster, and Seal Beach range from $50.00 to $65.00.

Our Public Works team takes great pride in providing safe, high-quality water service that is essential for everyday life in Huntington Beach. Water is a shared community resource that supports various activities, including fire protection, sanitation, and recreation. By investing in our water infrastructure, we are ensuring the well-being of our community now and into the future. We invite you to participate in the Huntington Beach City Council Public Hearing on Tuesday, April 16, at 6 p.m., to discuss these proposed rates.
